Troubleshooting EMAG Motor: Dispense Head

Troubleshooting EMAG Motor: Dispense Head

The dispense head is a crucial component of the EMAG motor system, responsible for precise dispensing operations in various industrial applications. This guide provides detailed troubleshooting procedures specifically for the dispense head, designed for EMAG trained Field Service Engineers (FSE) and helpdesk personnel. Below is an outline of common error codes, their meanings, and step-by-step troubleshooting methods for the dispense head assembly.

Dispense Head Error Codes

The dispense head can encounter several specific errors, identifiable by their codes:

  • 20207: Microstep driver axis 0 error – Indicates an electric failure during motor movement.
  • 20208: Microstep driver axis 0 communication failure – Suggests a failure in communication between the processor and motor.
  • 20209: Home report: steps lost [axis-0] – An error occurs during the Home procedure.
  • 20210: Motor Encoder error [axis-0] – Indicates an error during movement.

Troubleshooting Procedures for the Dispense Head

Sensor Status Check

Before conducting any tests, ensure the following steps in the Toolware software under Section 1, Dispense Subsystem:

  1. Ensure the "Auto update" box is checked.
  2. Before the test, the status should be set to "Unknown.

  1. Dispense Head Movement Test

    • Objective: Test the movement and sensor status of the dispense head.
    • Procedure: Perform one cycle of dispense head movement.
    • During Test: The dispenser position should switch from HOME to VESSEL 1.1 / VESSEL 3.8 state. The dispenser motor should switch from RUNNING to IDLE state during the test.
  2. Dispense Head Torque Margin Test

    • Objective: Test the motor itself and the axis sliding.
    • Procedure: Perform a cycle of dispense head movement from 100% power supplied to the motor to 40% power (6 cycles in total). This test should be processed without error.

Actions if Tests Result in Failure

  1. Cleaning the Motor Axis and Slider

    • Ask the customer to clean the motor axis (indicated by a yellow arrow) and slider (indicated by a green arrow) using a lint-free cloth or lens tissue.
    • Repeat the tests after cleaning.
  2. Dispatching an FSE

    • If the issue persists after cleaning, dispatch an FSE with the following spare parts:
      • Motor Assy Dispense Head (Part No. 6204399)
      • MOTINT1 Board (Part No. 6204427)
      • CABLE FLAT HEAD MOTOR DX (Right Section, Part No. 6204459)
      • CABLE FLAT HEAD MOTOR SX (Left Section, Part No. 6204460)
