flatex Account and Custody Account – Frequently Asked Questions

How can I transfer an account to flatex?

You can initiate a transfer using the form “Account/Custody Account Transfer to flatexDEGIRO Bank AG.”

Print, complete, and send the form to your current (issuing) bank. Processing typically takes up to three weeks.

flatex does not charge any fees for the transfer; however, your existing bank may charge transfer fees.


Can I open a securities account with flatex from abroad?

Yes, you can open a securities account from abroad.

Legitimation can be completed via:

  • Video identification

  • A notary

  • A major international bank, or

  • PostIdent (if you are in Germany).


Can I open a joint custody account?

Yes, up to two custodians can hold a joint custody account.

Please note:

  • CFD trading is not available for joint accounts.

  • Both account holders must have identical tax relationships.


Can I open additional custody accounts?

Yes, you can manage multiple custody accounts with flatex.

Once requested, confirm the opening via TAN to access your new account.
No further legitimation is required if you’ve already completed it for an existing account.


Can I appoint an authorised representative, and what rights do they have?

Yes, you can appoint an authorised representative.

Authorised representatives can:

  • Transfer funds

  • Take out loans

  • Trade securities

  • View statements

Certain activities, such as trading futures, require special authorisation.

You can find detailed settings and options under:
Account/Custody Account > Authorisation.


Can I rename my custody account?

Yes, you can rename your custody account.

  • flatex next: Go to Depot > Rename

  • flatex classic: Go to Service > Bank details


Can I specify multiple reference accounts?

No. Only one reference account can be linked to each custody account.

However, if you manage multiple custody accounts, you can assign a different reference account to each one.


How do I open another custody account?

You can open and manage up to five custody accounts.

Once the new account is created, confirm activation via TAN for immediate access.


How can I close my account or custody account?

You can close your account through:

  • flatex classic or flatex next, or

  • By sending a written request by post to:
    flatexDEGIRO Bank AG
    Pölbitzer Str. 9
    08058 Zwickau

Before closing, please ensure that no credit balance remains in either your custody or cash account.


How can I change my reference account?

You can update your reference account as follows:

  • flatex classic: Go to Service > Bank details > Change reference account

  • flatex next app: Go to Reference Account > Change

  • flatex next desktop: Go to Other tab > Reference Account > Change


How can I change my address with flatex?

If you need to update your address, you can do so in several ways depending on the platform you use.

Option 1 – flatex classic:

  1. Log in to your flatex classic account.

  2. Go to Service > Personal data > Authorised access.

  3. Update your address and complete any required verification steps.

Option 2 – flatex next:

  1. Log in to your flatex next account.

  2. Click the User icon in the top-right corner.

  3. Go to User account > Change my data > Master data.

  4. Enter your new address details, review, and save the changes.

Option 3 – By post:

  1. Complete the form “Change of customer master data.”

  2. Send the signed form by mail to the official flatex postal address listed in your account documents or on the flatex website.

  3. Once received, flatex will process and confirm the change.


How can I enter a new foreign address?

To update your address abroad, please submit the following:

  • Change of foreign address form

  • W8BEN/W9 Form

  • Proof of registration

Send these as original documents by post or as attachments online.
Please note that online changes apply only to German addresses.


How can I change the custodian?

It is not possible to transfer an existing custody account to another custodian.

Instead, you must:

  1. Open a new custody account.

  2. Transfer your existing portfolio values using the online custody account transfer feature or by submitting a signed transfer form (PDF).


How is legitimation carried out when opening a securities account?

Legitimation can be completed via:

  • Video identification (IDnow or Deutsche Post), or

  • eID verification (German ID card with NFC smartphone).

Video legitimation: available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
eID legitimation: available 24/7.

Both options are free of charge.


How can I be legitimised as a person living abroad?

If you live abroad, you can complete legitimation via:

  • Video identification

  • A notary, or

  • A major international bank

Certified copies must be signed and, if applicable, company stamped.
Documents should be sent directly to flatex.

Alternatively, you can complete legitimation in Germany using PostIdent.


When will I receive my access data?

Your login password is sent via SMS on the day your account is opened.
Your username is assigned during the account setup.

You’ll need both your customer number and username to log in.

If you haven’t received your access data, you can request reshipment via email.


Can companies open an account or custody account?

Yes, companies can open an account or custody account; however, online account opening is not yet available.

The required documents depend on the company’s legal form.
A one-time fee of €250 applies, which is credited back as order credit if more than five orders are executed in a quarter.


Can flatex open a call money account?

No. flatex focuses exclusively on securities trading and does not offer call money accounts.
